Just as Heavy:
A collection of poetry
Just as Heavy
This poetry collection tells a narrative of a woman’s struggle to find a new normal. Following the death of her best friend, Terrii’s life shifts dramatically. She battles a mental health crisis, self-worth, a divorce, and a new relationship that ends abruptly. Finally, she hits rock bottom. Facing a future that looks as bleak as winter, Terrii turns inward to poetry to sort through her feelings.
This is a raw and vulnerable look into the psyche of a person struggling with chronic clinical depression and terrible heartbreak. Terrii agonizes with her place in the world and wonders how to rebuild. Feeling as if she is drowning in grief, the only way out is through.
Can Terrii find hope?
Excerpts from Just as Heavy
This Poem Sucks
Sometimes I want to write
And I don’t know
What to write.
But I still want to write.
So, I write shitty poetry,
And say I’ll never share it
With anyone.
I write bad poems.
Like this poem.
Just so I can say,
“I wrote something today!”
Look at me!
This poem sucks.
Just As Heavy
Sometimes my lifts don’t happen
Behind a barbell.
Sometimes my lifts are too heavy,
Sometimes my lifts weigh nothing at all.
But they all require strength:
To be lifted,
To be moved.
It’s heaviest at night,
When my thoughts keep me company,
And no one knows
How loud they can be
When it’s just silence.
My invisible lifts
Are just as heavy.
